Revolutionary User Experience Debuts in the New XC90 SUV and Across Millions of Volvo Cars Worldwide
Crafted for the Modern Driver
User experience is an incredibly important part of any product, especially for cars. After all, a car is more than just a mode of transportation—it’s an extension of our daily lives. That’s why we’re excited to announce the debut of Volvo’s revolutionary user experience in the new XC90 SUV and across millions of Volvo cars worldwide. The best part? It will be released through an over-the-air software update, making it easily accessible to Volvo owners. And if you own a Volvo equipped with Google built in, you’ll receive a complimentary upgrade to a refreshed layout.
This exciting upgrade will go into effect in 2025 and apply to any Volvo built as early as 2020. It will roll out gradually over the year, improving the experience for around 2.5 million customers. Volvo will continuously be able to make its cars even better as time goes on by implementing regular over-the-air software updates, underscoring its steadfast commitment to providing the best possible user experience for Volvo drivers.
“Our new-generation user experience will deliver a significant improvement in customer experience and is an important step in our journey to deliver human-centric technology solutions to our customers. We’ll continuously and seamlessly adapt the user experience to match the needs of our customers through new and enhanced features that are delivered through over-the-air updates, to improve your car—and your experience—over time,” said Erik Severinson, Chief Product and Strategy Officer at Volvo Cars.
The new XC90 gets more than just the software update. It will now feature a larger, 11.2-inch free-standing central screen and an improved pixel density, which will allow for a clearer and more vibrant display. When coupled with the new software updates, this takes the user experience to new heights.
The most significant transformation is the content displayed on the screen. Common apps and controls like maps, media, and phones are now displayed on the home screen. This means you can access your most frequently used features with fewer taps on the screen. For instance, if you’re following navigation directions and wish to change the music, you no longer need to exit Google Maps to access the media feature—it’s readily available.
Beyond that, the contextual bar changes what you see based on the situation and shows your most recently used apps. Additionally, an icon for outside cameras will appear when you’re driving at low speeds, which is helpful for navigating tight spaces.
Plug-in-hybrid drivers will benefit from “Drive Modes” on the home screen, which makes it even quicker and easier to switch between modes.
Volvo’s commitment to enhancing user experience highlights its dedication to innovation and customer satisfaction. With the exciting rollout of the new features, Volvo owners can look forward to a driving experience that continuously evolves, offering more intuitive controls and a dynamic interface. So, whether you’re a long-time Volvo enthusiast or new to the brand, there’s never been a better time to experience what Volvo has to offer.
